Leaking Headers

Q: I bought new gaskets but headers are leaking. How do i fix it?

A: There are different factors that can cause leaks. The most common is the wrong header flange gasket. The gasket should be matched to the header and not the head. That is why we always recommend using Hedman brand gaskets since they are matched to our headers.

Another reason for leaks is our header being used on aftermarket heads. Our headers are designed for use on stock heads. Aftermarket heads are like snowflakes. Each brand has their own design. If this is the case, the Husler Racing Hedders are designed for specific heads.

Poorly hung exhaust can also put strain on the headers causing them to leak. There should be a hanger attached on the exhaust near the reducer.

Sometimes if the headers are tightened while hot, they will cuase leaks when cool. Best thing to do is to loosen the collector bolts, tighten header flange bolts to 20ft/lbs while cool, retighten collector bolts, drive til warm, let cool and then retighten to 20ft/lbs again. Be sure to start from inside to outside on the bolt pattern.

Leaks are not typical and should be rare. If trouble persists, please call us at 562-921-0404. We stand behind our product and will help in anyway possible!
