Header Reliability and Leaks

Q: I have a true dual exhaust and I was talking to the mechanic who installed it and he said headers would be too much of a pain for a daily driver. Headers bolts loosing up and not bein able to reach them along with the extra heat. I want headers but are they really that hard to maintain?

A: Hey Jared,

Headers can be reliable if installed correctly. First off, I would like to recommend Stage 8 brand header bolts if you are concerned about header flange bolts backing out. www.stage8.com . They use an Allen type head that is easy to reach and have a nice locking mechanism. One of our guys has had them on his headers for 12 years without ever having a leak.

Also, if you would like to keep the heat down in the engine compartment, go for the Elite series stainless steel headers part #72580, or go with the HTC ceramic coated stainless part #72586, HTC Coated mild steel headers part# 79586, which all dissapate heat better. The standard uncoated headers are part #79580.

Most problems people experience with headers can be prevented at installation. All our headers are designed to fit the vehicle they are going on so there should be no modification of the header or of your truck. The benefit of headers outweigh the small problems that may or may not happen. Many people use our headers and hardware right out of the box and never have a problem. But if you do, there are solutions and that's what we're here for!

Thanks for considering Hedman and let us know how that Hemi hums after installation!
