1959 Chevy Pickup with 327

Q: Hello Hedman!
I am working on rehabbing a 1959 Chevy pickup with a 327 CI engine. The 327 engine was not original to this truck. I was looking at your Standard Duty HTC coated hedders # 69266. Before I order, I want to make sure they fit. Could you please email me the specs/dimensions so I can see if they will fit before I order? I am also a little concerned about how to mount the generator with the #69266 hedders. I do see you have a bracket to mount the generator. I’m not exactly sure how the generator will mount with this bracket. Have any of your other customers inquired about this? Thanks for all your help! By the way, very nice website!
Thanks,
Spencer

A: Hey Spencer,

Our headers are guaranteed to fit and are made specifically for this particular application. As long as you don't have torsion bar suspension and your motor and tranny mounts are new or good condition, you should be ok.

Now about your generator. I have a 1962 Impala with a 327 that I put headers on and I used our brackets to install the generator (until i switched to an alternator) and it worked perfect. You need to use part# 20010 that mounts to the header with part# 20040 that bolts to the generator. So what you do is bolt 20010 to the header, attach part# 20040 to it, then install the generator to that. Now, since the header flange is a lot thinner than the stock manifold, you may have to space out the bracket about the same thickness to clear any power steering components. If this is the case, people have said that buying the little alternator bushing from the "HELP!" section at the auto parts store worked best. It also looks a lot cleaner than stacking a bunch of washers! Don't go out and buy the bushing yet. This isn't always the case.

If you decide to switch to an alternator later you can still use these brackets. Also, if you are installing the generator on the RIGHT side, get part# 20020 which is just a mirror image of 20010. 20040 that goes with it works on either side. Hope this helps!!
